SCHOOLSTRAAT (Wijnegem)

SCHOOLSTRAAT (Wijnegem)

The non-profit organisation Senes has created a pleasant sensory garden at the building at Schoolstraat 41 in Wijnegem for residents suffering from dementia.

Garden furniture has been installed that can be used in both winter and summer.

The benefits of this sensory garden include encouraging residents to spend more time outdoors and stimulating their senses in all kinds of ways, slowing down the progression of the disease, increasing appetite, strengthening bones and improving sleep patterns, ultimately reducing the need for medication.

Children from the neighbouring school can also be involved.

They can sow flowers and plant herbs together with the residents.

The sensory garden is a real meeting place that promotes social interaction between residents, and activities or events in the garden bring the indoors outside.
