In 2016, the local authority bought a 5,500 m² plot of land and called on the intermunicipal company Veneco to find a private partner. Veneco launched a PPP (Public-Private Partnership) contract for the development of a residential project, selling the land with the obligation for the buyer to build homes on it that would be rented out to the local Social Housing Agency. The investor Inclusio applied for the contract. Together with architect DENC-STUDIO, they submitted a bid for 28 homes.
Inclusio and DENC-STUDIO opted for a compact stack of small housing units with a limited footprint, as much greenery as possible and a large distance from the surrounding detached houses. By locating the building on one long side of the plot, the fragmentation of the site is avoided. The jury appreciated the efficiency of the project and the sustainable design. The building is powered by geothermal energy and a typology that provides natural heat. The living spaces extend from one façade to the other, accessible via a wide gallery at the rear. Each home has a private terrace overlooking the communal garden. There will also be an office for the Woonmaatschappij Woonpijler.
